It's necessary because it might not be safe to hang out with some random guy. Dating is usually done in public; ie, dinner and a movie… or bowling, something like that. Popular dating places tend to be semi-private, but still within range of help if it should come to that. Once trust is developed, the relationship can move to fully private areas like one's own home.

Gender discrimination is choosing one gender over another. Where there are differences between the sexes that are advantageous for an employer, then it should never be considered 'gender discrimination'. Hell, it's just the way it is.

If a women's abilities are ignored because she is a woman, then it is. When I was with the local fire dept there was an amazon of a woman¹ who all of us thought more than capable of being a damn good firefighter. She didn't make it on the dept and it caused all kinds of unnecessary BS because of gender discrimination.

Note: While she didn't get on the fire dept, 'super tarded fuck-nut' did, whose behavior later had a potential to look very badly on the FD.

Here's a random thought :

Most horror movies follow (or used to follow) a general theme : group of people are eliminated one by one by a predator type until only two remain, the guy who defeats the predator and the girl he's always liked who is suddenly overwhelmingly attracted to him.

Any thoughts on this?

Actually, the victim-of-the-week works on the same principles as a primal relationship, but the male is an abuser. The same primal drives that attract women to dominant men also make them attracted to abusers.

Just, in the abuser's case, he's broken to begin with.

Generally, what people think when the terms "dominance" and "submission" are used is the subjugation model found in Lifetime Channel victim-of-the-week movies. I'm not really seeing that in Shawn's statements here. It's more like complimentary opposites. Rather than over-the-top I'm the boss, hear me roar; think simple biological function. Men are designed by nature to protect and provide and psychologically want to do just that. The dominant male in any primate society is the one that the females want to have offspring with. They submit to his authority because he's the one capable of making sure that the females and the children will survive.
